In a Madrid of courtyards, hallways, and domestic secrets, an unknown key appears sewn into Fortunata's apron. No lock in her house recognizes it, but a neighbor swears she has seen it in the inner courtyard of a home where certain families should not cross paths. The key leads not only to a door, but to a circulation of letters, favors, and silences between classes and desires. Fortunata will have to decide whether entering is seeking dignity or surrendering once again to a rigged game.
