Opening scene
A violent storm forces the household indoors just as a damaged letter arrives from Hertfordshire claiming that someone close to Lydia's elopement profited from it more deliberately than anyone guessed. Elizabeth suspects a distortion, Darcy sees a threat to fragile peace, and Charlotte Lucas warns that the most dangerous lie is often the one stitched partly from truth. As servants whisper, tempers tighten, and the messenger cannot be found again, public exposure and quiet testing both threaten to reopen a wound the family has barely finished dressing.
