Opening scene
On a night of long unbroken rain, in Sensei's study, a letter is found — nearly complete, yet without seal or stamp. The addressee is an old friend who should already be among the dead. Is it an unfinished confession, an apology that can no longer be sent, or a text left behind for someone yet to read it? Sensei seems less troubled by the paper on the desk than by the order in which it might now be read.
