On the day the ripe gourd is split in Heungbu's yard, the children expect gold and silver. Instead, a cold ring of keys clatters out, with a tablet at the top reading 'The owner locked this door for the last time before leaving.' The wife's face stiffens; over the wall, Nolbu's cough is already audible. If this is the swallow's blessing, why does it carry the trace of an empty house — and how did Nolbu hear about it so soon? Heungbu must find out first.
