Opening scene
On the eve of Dan-no-ura, an arrow washed up on the shore wears Heike fletching but bears a Genji mark. Someone, before the tide itself can turn, is already trying to fix the bearing of betrayal. Tomomori cannot dismiss it merely as the work of a spy: he begins to suspect that within his own clan a heart has already begun to drift along the line of defeat. Before the sea fight, the current of human will must first be read.
