Opening scene
Thunder drowns out the church bells, yet the experiment ledger that should have been burned appears on the old house steps. The pages are wedged with fresh mud, and the top sheet bears an annotation you did not write: 'The first to flee was the creator, not the life.' Elizabeth calls from upstairs, and barking echoes from the direction of the cemetery.
